Greenstone Engineering Ltd. (Greenstone) is an environmental engineering and consulting firm serving private and public sector clients throughout the Northern Ontario region. We are seeking a Regional Manager to join our group of highly motivated specialized professionals to work on environmental projects with varying complexity, and to support general business operations. The ideal candidate will bring a positive and solutions-oriented attitude, is highly organized and responsive, diplomatic, direct in their communications, and enjoy an energetic but collaborative work setting. The successful applicant will report directly to the General Manager, be based in Sudbury or North Bay, and will lead the Greenstone team of technical specialists and project managers in Northeastern Ontario region.
The role will include overseeing all aspects of project work including proposal writing, field work, and reporting requirements including data analysis and report writing/review relating to Phase One and Two Environmental Site Assessments, Soil and Groundwater Remediation Work, Landfill Design and Groundwater Attenuation Monitoring, Excess Soil Management, Designated Substances Surveys, Mould Investigations, Brownfield Land Development, Environmental Spill Response and Record of Site Condition filings with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. It is expected the candidate will demonstrate strong technical writing and communication skills and have experience working with provincial legislation related to Ontario Regulation 153/04, Ontario Regulation 347, and Ontario Regulation 406/19. The candidate will also have demonstrated experience with staff management.
DUTIES
· Plan, conduct, and oversee all projects in the Northeastern Ontario region.
· Act as the project-level environmental representative for clients.
· Manage budgets and deliverables according to agreed scope and contract terms.
· Prepare or review environmental plans.
· Ensure quality of work (Project end to end) including proposals, work plans, field programs, data collection and analysis, mapping, technical reports and management plans, environmental monitoring.
· Address client questions and comments promptly and effectively.
· Provide QA/QC and technical review of deliverables to ensure consistency, quality, and responsiveness in all deliverables.
· Mentor and direct less experienced staff to ensure quality and timely completion of deliverables.
· Prepare or review technical reports associated with regulatory approvals or compliance requirements.
· Relationship management, consultation, and engagement activities on behalf of, and as directed by clients.
· Develop and implement sales strategies and plans for regional offices.
· Develop corporate budgetary and business operational plans for regional offices.
SKILLS
· A strong technical background with extensive knowledge of applicable environmental and health and safety legislation [Ontario Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Health and Safety Act, Ontario Regulation 153/04, Ontario Regulation 347, Ontario Regulation 278, Ontario Regulation 232/98 and Ontario Regulation 406/19], regulatory permits and approvals, bylaws, and environmental best management practices.
· Experience as an environmental manager.
· High competency in preparing and coordinating technical environmental documents, reports and management plans to support scope of work, regulatory approvals process or environmental compliance.
· Experience in developing, reviewing, and implementing field investigation work plans for large environmental site assessment and remediation projects.
· Experience managing subcontractors and subconsultants.
· Proven technical writing skills.
· Self-motivated, with the ability to manage time and multiple projects accordingly.
· Demonstrate professional judgment, consistency, attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
· Proven organizational, communication, interpersonal, negotiation, leadership, and analytical skills.
· Commitment to excellence with a focus on quality control and quality management.
· Management of personnel and resources, with a strong focus on health and safety management.
· Ability to promote team effort and collaboration.
QUALIFICATIONS
A degree or diploma in engineering, or field related to environmental science,
A license with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) with P. Eng., or Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) with P. Geo., or the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
Minimum 10 years of environmental consulting experience with a focus on environmental management of mid- to large‑sized projects end to end.
Valid G driver's license in Ontario.
